Lovely capture of this moment in the story. One of the top three saddest (right behind the scene where Molly swears at the unicorn because she didn't come ten years earlier and the scene where Lear realizes his Almalthia is a unicorn again and can't be with him).

God that's a sad story! No wonder I went through a country Western phase, which bitter-sweet stories like this one engraved into my mind.

Anyway, I know this is an old piece of yours, but I wanted to say how much I enjoy it now that's I've finally stumbled across it.
