This is my entry for =nikkayla's contest to draw your favorite fictional horse character. I choose Shetan, the Black Stallion, from the mind of Walter Farley. :aww:

This scene is from the race at the end of The Black Stallion Returns, where Shetan is about to steal the lead from the Bedouin stallion, Sagr. I wanted to include Sagr bc I always thought he was insanely gorgeous! :faint: Almost steals the show! :XD: I intentionally tried to make Alec look like Kelly Reno (the actor from the films), but Abd-al-Rahman (the Shiekh on Sagr) I had to make up, much to my horror...

Seriously I tried so hard to find references to make this easier for me, but in the end I only used this insanely small one for their poses: [link] and an equally small pic from Hidalgo to help me with the tack designs. Oh! And a few different desert pics for the background (didn't want to take credit for that! ;P) But that's it. O_O Hence this drawing taking me TWO DAYS to finish! Geez...needless to say, I'm glad it's done. :tombstone:

I enjoyed that book though I don't remember much. Good luck in the competition, I may inspect it too :P lovely horses :heart:

thats amazing! they both look gorgeous, and very powerful (the horses, not the people lol) the sheen is wonderful, as is the poses.
my only suggestion would be to change the angle of Alec's (is that his name?) neck. at the minute he's looking a little hunchback like.
Other than that, perfectionnooooo!!!

ah ok *takes another look* ah I understand what you're going for. The shadow from his hair though makes it hard to see where his back ends, though. Fiddle with it a bit, I think ;)

My character Torius's amour is actually based off the tack that Arabians put on their horses.
You did a brilliant job on it, it looks really realistic, especially the background.
You're really good at drawing people.
If I entered that contest I'd probably draw Wildfire from the song by Michael Murphy about the girl and her horse Wildfire who runs away during a winter's storm.
Do you know of the song?
